MOLINE, Ill. – Senior center fielder Jacob Van Duyne (Wilmington HHS, Wilmington, Ill.) went 5-for-6, including his first career home run and Augustana took advantage of six errors, five wild pitches and a passed ball by Elmhurst to hand the Bluejays a 15-8 defeat at Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field Sunday. The Vikings swept the three-game weekend series to improve to 14-6 on the year and 6-2 in the CCIW. Elmhurst slipped to 4-14 overall and 0-8 in the league.

An unearned run in the bottom of the first put the hosts on top, but Elmhurst took the lead and knocked out starter Walter White (East Peoria HS, East Peoria, Ill.) with four runs in the top of the third. Greg Struck's two-run double was the big blow in the inning.

The Vikings chipped away, getting single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to draw even at 4-4. Van Duyne had a leadoff single and scored on a Grant Stewart (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) ground out in the third. In the fourth, junior Kyle Lenihan (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) had a leadoff single and came around to score on Van Duyne's RBI double down the left field line and Stewart led off the fifth with a single to center and eventually scored the equalizer on wild pitch.

Freshman Kyle McGinley (Mullen HS, Denver, Colo.) relieved White in the third and held the Bluejays scoreless through the seventh. His teammates gave him the lead with a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman Alex Fluehr (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) led off the frame by reaching on an error and Van Duyne followed with his first career homer to make it 6-4 Vikings. Junior Brandon Jasper (Central HS, DeWitt, Iowa) singled to left and two outs later, classmate Nick Tenerelli (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) drove him in with a double to left center. Lenihan plated Tenerelli with a single to center for the final run of the inning.

Stewart's two-out single in the seventh scored sophomore Trace Gingerich (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) for a 9-4 Viking lead.

Luke Collins blasted a two-run homer as Elmhurst finally got to McGinley for three runs in the top of the eighth. However, junior Kevin Hodgman (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) came on and got the Vikings out of further trouble, keeping the score at 9-7.

Augustana put the game away with a six-run eighth. All six runs were unearned and came with two outs. Junior Danny Fifer (Lincoln-Way West HS, New Lenox, Ill.) drove a run with a single to right, the Vikings' only RBI of the inning.

Elmhurst plated a run in the ninth to account for the final.

Van Duyne scored three runs and drove in four on the day and had plenty of help offensively. Fifer finished 3-for-5. Jasper was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Stewart had a pair of hits and two RBI. Lenihan had two hits and two runs scored and Tenerelli had two hits, including a double. Gingerich and Fluehr each scored twice as well.
