Anderson finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Teson was 3-for-4 with a run knocked in and Lavin went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
AUGUSTANA 9, MONMOUTH 8 Christie Wiersema's
(Morrison HS, Morrison, Ill.) two-out, two run double in the sixth inning lifted Augustana to a win in the night cap. In the early going, it looked like the Vikings might coast to another shortened win, but Monmouth had other ideas.
Augustana scored three in the first on Anderson's two-run single and Lavin's sacrifice fly to center. The Vikings added two in the second and one in the third to lead 6-0 after two and a half innings. Senior
Krista Watson (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) and Anderson had RBI singles in the second and Kistler's club took advantage of two Scot errors to plate the third-inning run.
Charlotte Park got Monmouth on the board with a two-out solo homer off Anderson in the bottom of the fourth and the Scots exploded for seven more runs in the fifth. Taylor Smith, Emily Siefken and Emily Watkins had RBI singles and Caitlin Lingle punctuated the inning with a grand slam to give the hosts an 8-6 lead. Wiersema came on to pitch and allowed a double to Kailtyn Winkler, but got Kirstyn Ozga to pop into an unassisted, inning-ending double play to Watson at short.
The Monmouth lead was short-lived as Augustana responded with three runs in the top of the sixth. Anderson and senior
Jaime Rehmert (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) blasted back-to-back doubles to start the frame and get the Vikings to within a run. One out later, Gray singled and after the second out, Wiersema put the visitors back on top with a two-run double to left center.
Hintz came on to start the sixth. She retired Monmouth in order in that inning and pitched around an error in the seventh to close things out and earn her second save of the season. Wiersema picked up the win to bump her record to 4-0 on the season. Anderson went 4-for-4 with three RBI. Rehmert and Watson each had a pair of hits and Gray scored twice, while Wiersema knocked in two.
