Hot streak continues as Vikings win 14th straight

An 18-goal run sealed the deal for the Augustana women's lacrosse team in a 20-2 victory over Aurora on the road on Saturday, April 26th. The triumph marked the 14th straight for the Vikings as they climbed to 14-0 on the year and 8-0 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play. Aurora fell to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in the league.
 
Sophomore Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored early and often as she put the Vikings out front just 50 seconds into the contest. Six seconds later Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) fired one home and put Augustana up 2-0. 13 seconds later Maduro found the back of the net again for her second tally of the day and a 3-0 Augustana advantage just 1:09 into the contest. Maduro scored twice more in the opening half while teammate Annie Hopkins (Mother Mcauley HS, Chicago, Ill.) tallied three goals. Head coach Sara Tisdale's crew rode a 14-0 lead into intermission.
 
Augustana picked up where it left off in the first half as Alex Palmisano (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) put the Vikings up 15 at the 27:48 mark. Three more goals gave the blue and gold an 18-0 lead before Aurora found the net with 14:09 on the clock. The Spartans struck again at the 7:18 mark to cut Augustana's advantage to 18-2.  Quinn Foley (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) tallied her second score of the game at the 5:33 mark for a 19-2 Viking' advantage before Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) registered the final goal of the contest with 54 ticks remaining to account for the final score of 20-2.
 
Maduro finished the game with four goals while Hopkins added three. Foley found the back of the net twice and assisted a pair of first-half goals. Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) tallied two scores in addition to an assist while teammate Madi Stoneman (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) scored a pair. Seven Vikings recorded one goal in the contest including: Emily Pavlik (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.), Palmisano, Shelby Cosman (Marion Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.), Hofmann, Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.), Nolan, and Patty Miller (William Fremd HS, Inverness, Ill.) who also registered an assist.
 
The Vikings once again assisted at least half of their goals as they recorded 14 assists against the Spartans. Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) lead Augustana with five assists while Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) had three.  Rebecca Pollard (Westfield HS, Carmel, Ind.) assisted a pair of goals on the day.
 
Tisdale's unit finished with a 30-5 shot advantage, including a 23-3 halftime margin. Augustana allowed the hosts to successfully clear just five of their 14 attempts as the Vikings succeeded on 6-7 tries.  The visitors won 19-24 draws in the contest with Nolan registering a game-high of six. The Vikings also held a 25-8 ground ball advantage as Handrahan and Nolan each registered three.
 
Hofmann saw the first half of action in the net for Augustana and recorded the only two Viking' saves before seeing field time in the second half. Sarah Osier (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) stepped into the goal for Tisdale's squad after intermission.
 
To celebrate "Senior Day", Augustana will host Beloit on Sunday, April 27th scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.  Meredith Goodale (New Trier HS, Glencoe, Ill.) is the lone senior in the line-up for Tisdale's team.
 
Beloit is currently 10-6 overall and 6-3 in the league, good for fifth place in the standings. The Augustana and Beloit programs met for the only time in 2013 when the Vikings came out on top 19-1.
