Vikings win fourth straight and now sit at 6-3 overall

Jared Hawkins (Everett HS, Everett, Wash.) found the back of the net just 42 seconds in the into the Midwest Lacrosse Conference match-up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin between Augustana and the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday, April 2nd.  The Vikings moved to 6-3 on the season with the 17-5 plodding of MSOE. Head coach Kyle Hart's team moved to 3-1 in the MLC with its fourth straight victory.
 
Hawkins tally was his ninth goal on the season and he also added his 13th assist on the season when he assisted a first quarter Scott Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Overland Park, Kan.) score. Alexander Crescenti (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) led all scorers in the match with five goals, including two in the Vikings' eight goal first quarter. Davis added four goals of his own and now leads the team in goals scored with 22 through the blue and gold's first nine games.
 
Jesse Nagelberg (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) found the back of the net three times in the contest and also assisted a pair of Davis goals. Junior Doug Barrie (Lake Forest HS, Lake Forest, Ill.) scored two goals in the match while teammate Jonathan Bryk (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) added a goal of his own. Kyle Doner (Peak-to-Peak HS, Erie, Colo.) also tallied a goal and an assist on the evening. Vincent Giglierano (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) and Andrew Miller (Waukesha North HS, Waukesha, Wis.) each contributed two assists.
 
Augustana tallied the first five goals of the night in just over the first five minutes of play before the Raiders were able to break through the Viking defense with 3:57 left in the opening quarter. Hart's squad scored twice more to end the quarter with a 7-1 advantage. Davis scored the first goal of the second period with 5:16 left on the clock but then the Raiders scored three straight goals before Crescenti answered to give the Vikings a 9-4 lead going into intermission.
 
Hart's squad scored two quick third quarter goals before MSOE answered for the final time. Over the final 21:03 Augustana registered six more goals to finish with a 17-5 victory.
 
Statistically speaking, the visitors outshot the Raiders by a 44-10 margin and converted on their first five shots of the contest. The Milwaukee School of Engineering turned the ball over 30 times opposed to 20 by Augustana. The blue and gold held an advantage in ground balls recovered by a 46-28 margin.
 
Cody Burgdorff (Peak-to-Peak HS, Lafayette, Colo.) recorded the win in the net for Augustana and recorded two saves in the match. Burgdorff's counterpart registered 10 saves as MSOE moved to 0-7 on the season.
 
Next on the schedule for the Vikings is an April 5th trip to Lisle, Illinois for an MLC contest with Benedictine. The Saturday matchup has a start time of 1:00 p.m. The Vikings hold the advantage in the series with Benedictine with a 16-6 victory in the only meeting between the programs. The Eagles are currently 7-3 and 3-1 in the MLC.
