Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) goal just :49 into the contest set the tone for the afternoon as head coach Sara Tisdale's Augustana women's lacrosse team coasted to a 21-4 victory over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, April 12
th in Cincinnati, Ohio. The win marks the 11
th straight victory for the undefeated Vikings who are now 5-0 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference while the Lions fell to 8-6 on the year and 5-4 in the league.
The Vikings have now won a game in seven different states this season and have beaten teams from nine different states during their 2014 campaign.
Augustana outscored the hosts 8-1 in the first half and 13-3 after intermission. From the 13:39 mark in the opening period to the 15:04 point in the second stanza Tisdale's crew went on a 12-0 run. The Lions scored two of the next three goals to make the score 17-3 but Augustana fired back with four goals in the next three minutes for a 20-3 advantage. Mount St. Joseph found the net for its fourth goal of the contest with just 27 ticks left but that was plenty of time for
Patty Miller (William Fremd HS, Inverness, Ill.) to record her second goal of the contest.
Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) led all scorers with five goals in addition to two assists. Mayer finished the game with a hat trick of goals including a free-position score.
Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) found the back of the net twice on the afternoon to go along with three assists.
Shelby Cosman (Marion Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.) scored twice for Augustana and assisted a pair of goals as well.
Rebecca Pollard (Westfield HS, Carmel, Ind.),
Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.), and Miller each tallied two scores along with a Pollard assist.
Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) tied Handrahan for a game-high three assists and also added a goal for the visitors.
Emily Pavlik (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.) tallied a second half goal and assist for two points in the contest while
Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) added a goal of her own.
In terms of other statistics, the Vikings held the advantage in nearly every category. Augustana outshot the Lions 35-15 in the match which resulted in 11 Mount St. Joseph saves opposed to six by Tisdale's crew. The visitors controlled 17 of the 26 draws on the afternoon as Cosman led the Vikings with four draw controls. Augustana held the advantage in ground balls by a margin of 19-9 as Pavlik collected a game-high of five. The Lions gave the ball up 27 times as eight different Vikings registered a caused turnover with Kargl, Pollard, Pavlik, and
Meredith Goodale (New Trier HS, Glencoe, Ill.) each recording two or more.
Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) was credited with the win in the net for the Vikings and moved to 9-0 on the season. Hofmann recorded five saves in the contest before
Sarah Osier (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) stepped in and registered a save of her own.
Tisdale's crew heads to Kenosha, Wisconsin to visit Carthage on Tuesday, April 15
th which is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. first draw. The all-time series record between the Augustana and Carthage women's lacrosse programs is split at one game apiece. Augustana won the 2013 meet by a 10-9 margin while the Red Men were victorious in 2012 by a score of 13-10.
