Vikings put Spartans away early and move to 7-0 on the season

Rebecca Pollard (Westfield HS, Carmel, Ind.) tallied her first goal just 1:39 into the game and added three more first half goals in the Augustana women's lacrosse 22-0 victory over Dubuque at Thorson-Lucken Field on Tuesday, April 1st. Augustana has now won seven games with each of the opponents coming from a different state and moves to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play.
 
Head coach Sara Tisdale's squad scored 22 unanswered goals in the match coming off of 16 assists. Pollard and Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) led all scorers with four goals each. Pollard added four assists and Kargl contributed a pair.
 
Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.), Shelby Cosman (Marion Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.), and Madi Stoneman (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) each contributed a trio of scores. Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and Patty Miller (William Fremd HS, Inverness, Ill.) both found the back of the net twice for the Vikings.  With 17:22 remaining in the game Alex Palmisano (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) broke through with her first goal of the season.
 
Handrahan also added a pair of assists on the evening. Eight Vikings recorded one assist in the contest including: Palmisano, Cosman, Nolan, Miller, Stoneman, Gina Filippo (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.), Emily Pavlik (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.), and Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.).
 
Augustana outshot the Spartans by a 45-5 margin and held the visitors to a lone shot after intermission. The Vikings also controlled the ground ball category recovering 30 ground balls opposed to nine by Dubuque. Nolan picked up a game-high five ground balls for the blue and gold.
 
Barbara Vega (Marion Catholic HS, Flossmoor, Ill.), Maggie DelVecchio (Barrington HS, Barrington, Ill.) and Nolan each caused two Spartan turnovers in the contest.  The Vikings had a total of 10 caused turnovers on the evening.
 
Tisdale's crew held the Spartans to just three successful clears in 28 attempts, while Augustana successfully cleared 7-9 attempts.
 
Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) was credited with the victory in net and moved to 5-0 on the season. Hofmann recorded two saves during the first half. Sarah Osier (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) played the second half in the goal for the Vikings and registered one save.
 
The Vikings are in action at Thorson-Lucken Field again this weekend when they host Denison on Saturday, April 5th and MWLC opponent Loras on Sunday, April 6th. Game times are 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. respectively. The Saturday matchup will mark the first meeting for the Denison and Augustana women's lacrosse programs. Denison will enter the contest with a 5-2 record.
