Box Score Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) found the back of the net on a free position attempt with 21:23 remaining in the game against Concordia of Wisconsin on Saturday, March 29th for the first of nine unanswered goals to put the game on ice for the Augustana women's lacrosse team. The Vikings won by a final of 17-6 against Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference opponent Concordia and moved to 6-0 on the season while handing the Falcons their second loss of the year to move to 4-2. Head coach Sara Tisdale's team went up 2-0 early in the first half following a pair of
Shelby Cosman (Marian Catholic HS, Saint John, Ind.) goals before Concordia found the back of the net at 16:08 to cut the lead in half. Three consecutive
Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton Ill.) scores followed by an
Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) goal put the Vikings up 6-1 until the Falcons answered with a pair of goals.
Rebecca Pollard (Westfield HS, Carmel, Ind.) scored with 1:35 left before intermission to put the visitors up 7-3 heading into halftime.
Concordia scored three of the first four goals of the second half to pull within two (8-6) with 22:56 left on the clock but would then fall victim to a 9-0 scoring run by the Vikings to close out the contest. Kargl's first goal of her hat trick on the afternoon was the spark that Tisdale's crew needed to start the run.
Stelzer was the high scorer in the contest with five goals accompanied by two assists. Kargl was next in line with a trio of scores and an assist to Stelzer. Pollard and
Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) had two scores and an assist on the day, each assisting a Kargl goal. Cosman was kept quiet following her early start and finished with a pair of scores in the match. Mayer ended the day with one tally in both the goal and assist columns.
Kaylee Nolan (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and
Madi Stoneman (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) each added a goal on their lone shot attempts of the afternoon.
Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) got the win in the net for Augustana and moved to 4-0 on the season. In the first 51 minutes of play Hofmann recorded six saves on 12 shots before being swapped for
Sarah Osier (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.). Osier saved the only shot she faced in the match which also happened to be her first action in the net this season.
Statistically speaking, Tisdale's squad dominated the ground ball category by a 45-22 margin over the Falcons. Concordia coughed up 29 turnovers to the Vikings' 15 on the afternoon. Augustana also converted on 6-13 free position shots opposed to 1-4 by the host.
Next on the schedule for Tisdale's crew is a three-game homestead at Thorson-Lucken Field over a six-day span. The Vikings host Dubuque on Tuesday, April 1
st at 7:30 p.m. for the second meeting between the programs in as many years. Augustana was the victor in the 2013 contest by a 26-0 margin. Dubuque is currently 0-4 and will play host to Mount St. Joseph before visiting Rock Island.
