Box Score After falling behind 1-0 to Beloit midway through the opening period, Augustana scored nine unanswered goals en route to a 13-6 non-conference victory on Wednesday, March 26th in Beloit, Wisconsin.
Kyle Doner (Peak-to-Peak HS, Erie, Colo.) scored the equalizing goal just 32 seconds after Beloit found the back of the net. The Vikings then added eight more goals before allowing the Buccaneers to score again.
The nine unanswered goals by the Vikings occurred over the span of 30 minutes, beginning at the 9:01 mark in the first quarter and ending with a Beloit goal with 7:17 remaining in the third period. Augustana scored twice more in the stanza to give itself an 11-2 advantage before Beloit answered with just under a minute to go in the third. The Vikings scored twice in the final quarter to Beloit's three goals, making it the only quarter when Augustana was outscored in the match.
Scott Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Overland Park, Kan.) led all scorers with five goals and now has 16 on the season.
Jared Hawkins (Everett HS, Everett, Wash.) found the back of the net twice and added an assist on the evening.
Alexander Crescenti (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) also scored a pair of goals for head coach
Kyle Hart's squad.
Jesse Nagelberg (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) and
Tim Fennelly (Littleton HS, Centennial, Colo.) each added a goal and an assist for Augustana, while Doner and
Andrew Miller (Waukesha North HS, Waukesha, Wis.) both tallied scores on the night as well.
Vincent Giglierano (Archbishop Mitty HS, San Jose, Calif.) and
Austin Marrison (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) each contributed an assist.
A total of 15 different Vikings picked up at least one ground ball in the match, contributing to the 29-26 advantage held by Augustana. Hart's group outshot the hosts by a margin of 49-34 with Nagelberg and Crescenti firing off 10 shots a piece. The Vikings relinquished the ball just eight times during the match as opposed to 15 turnovers by the Bucs.
Cody Burgdorff (Peak-to-Peak HS, Lafayette, Colo.) played 52:51 minutes in net for Augustana and moved to 4-3 on the season. Burgdorff recorded 12 saves while surrendering five scores during the game.
Jack Peters (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.) saw some action to close out the match. Peters recorded a save during the final 7:09 of play and gave up the final Beloit goal.
Coach Hart's squad is back in action this weekend when the Vikings host Defiance on Saturday, March 29th. The first face-off of the Midwest Lacrosse Conference contest is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field. Augustana beat Defiance 18-2 in the only meeting between the two programs during the 2013 season.
