ADRIAN, Mich. – Augustana jumped out in front 5-0 less than 12 minutes into Saturday's contest at Adrian and went on to a 21-10 win at Docking Stadium. The victory avenged a 16-11 loss to the Bulldogs last year at Thorson-Lucken Field, the only setback ever for the Vikings at home. Augustana improves to 4-0 on the year, while Adrian drops to 1-2.

The visitors took the lead with 25:31 remaining in the first half on a Kelley Stelzer (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) free position goal, her seventh of the season. Despite outshooting the Bulldogs by a 9-1 margin, the Viking lead stayed at just 1-0 until another free position goal, this one by sophomore Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) at the 20:39 mark, put Augustana up 2-0.

Junior Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) scored twice and sophomore Rebecca Pollard (Westfield HS, Carmel, Ind.) once over the next two minutes before Brianna Plester got Adrian on the board with a free position goal at 17:51 of the first half.

After the teams traded goals through the middle portion of the period, Pollard scored her third of the game with 9:26 on the clock, sparking a 4-0 Augustana run that put Coach Sara Tisdale's club up 11-3. The hosts answered with three straight goals before sophomore Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored her second of the half off a Kargl assist at 1:20 to send the Vikings to the locker room with a 12-6 lead.

A Christine Campbell goal drew the Bulldogs within 12-7 at the 23:50 mark of the second half, but Augustana scored seven of the next eight goals to keep the game safely in hand. Pollard and Maduro each scored during that stretch with Kargl netting the last three goals.

Freshman Annie Hopkins (Mother McAuley HS, Chicago, Ill.) made it 20-10 with her fourth goal of the game and sophomore Shelby Cosman (Marina Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.) accounted for the final, scoring off an assist from freshman Maggie DelVecchio (Barrington HS, Barrington, Ill.) with 1:30 left.

Kargl finished with team highs of five goals and four assists, but had plenty of help. Pollard and Hopkins each found the net four times. Maduro added three goals and a pair of assists and Cosman had two goals and two assists. Nolan controlled six draws in the contest.

Defensively, freshman Olivia Mayer (Libertyville HS, Green Oaks, Ill.) forced four turnovers and Maduro three. They each tied Kargl for the team lead in ground balls with three apiece. Sophomore Jenna Hofmann (Columbine HS, Littleton, Colo.) recorded four saves in goal.

The Vikings will make their 2014 debut at Thorson-Lucken Field on Friday, March 21 against DePauw. First draw for that contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
