ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Sophomore Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) contributed with both her arm and her bat to help 14th ranked Augustana pick up a non-conference double header sweep on Webster on Saturday, March 15 in St. Louis, Missouri. The Vikings, now 10-2 on the season, defeated the Gorloks 6-0 in the first game and 11-1 in the nightcap.

In the first game, senior Sarah Hintz (LeRoy HS, LeRoy, Ill.) spun a complete game four-hitter to move her record to 7-0 while striking out six and walking just one. Anderson was one for four from the plate in that game but in the second game she went two for three with four runs-batted-in and scattered eight hits with five strikeouts to up her mark to 3-2.

The Vikings will now head back to St. Louis this coming weekend to participate in the Mizuno Invitational with Washington and Coe on Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23.

GAME 1 – AUGUSTANA 6, WEBSTER 0

Hintz was tremendous on the hill as she tossed a four hitter to stay perfect on the year at 7-0. She struck out four and walked one.

The game was scoreless until the Vikings batted in the top of the fifth when junior second baseman Jenna Teson (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) double in a pair of runs. In the sixth junior first baseman Cassie Saufley (Normal West HS, Hudson, Ill.) scored on an error on a ball hit by sophomore Kendra Rakers (Belleville West HS, Millstadt, Ill.) and then senior third baseman Chaney Tambling (Dwight HS, Dwight, Ill.) singled Rakers home.

Junior leftfielder Laura Behnke (Wheaton St. Francis HS, Roselle, Ill.) homered in the seventh and Rakers singled in senior shortstop Krista Watson (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) to account for the final runs for the Vikings.

Teson, Tambling and junior right fielder Christie Wiersema (Morrison HS, Morrison, Ill.) all had two hits.

GAME 2 – AUGUSTANA 11, WEBSTER 1

The Vikings broke this game open with four runs in the third and three in the fourth and Anderson was a force both as a pitcher and a hitter in an 11-1 win.

It was Anderson's single in the first that plated Behnke that gave Augustana a 1-0 lead. In the third the Vikings put four runs on the board as Watson's double drove home Behnke and then Anderson singled to bring home Teson to make it 3-0. A single by senior Jaime Rehmert (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) drove in Watson. Sophomore Jennifer Gray (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) eventually scored the fourth run of the inning on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

The Vikings added three in the fourth and three in the sixth to end the game after six innings due to the mercy rule. Rehmert had two RBI in the fourth and two more in the sixth on singles.

Augustana cracked 12 hits in the win with Rehmert leading the way with three and Anderson collecting two. Rehmert had five RBI and Anderson four.

Anderson went six innings and scattered eight hits and had five strikeouts while walking just one batter.
