ALBION, Mich. – Augustana and Albion were tied 3-3 after one quarter Saturday, but the host Britons scored the only two goals of the second period and the Vikings spent the rest of the contest playing catch-up, falling 8-5 at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium. Augustana falls to 1-1 on the season, while Albion improves to 3-1.

After Stephen Treppa put the hosts on top with a goal at 11:45 of the first period, the Vikings answered with back-to-back goals to take their only lead of the game. Junior Tim Fennelly (Littleton HS, Centennial, Colo.) scored at the 10:32 mark off a Jared Hawkins (Everett HS, Everett, Wash.) assist to tie it and Colin Haley (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) put Augustana on top with an unassisted goal with 8:50 left in the quarter.

Albion's Zach Hubbell scored consecutive goals to put the Britons back on top before Viking sophomore Alexander Crescenti (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) scored his fourth of the young season to tie it at 3-3 after one.

Dylan Neal and Kevin O'Grady tallied the only goals of the second quarter and Cameron Braun added the first score of the third as Albion took a 6-3 lead. Augustana sophomore Scott Davis (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Overland Park, Kan.) sandwiched a pair of goals around one by Briton Alexander Dziewit and the Vikings trailed 7-5 with 11:44 to play. However, Treppa added the game's final goal at 5:43 and the hosts were able to run out the clock for the win.

Viking goalkeeper Cody Burgdorff (Peak to Peak HS, Lafayette, Colo.) played well again, facing a total of 38 shots and recording 14 saves. He has stopped 30 of 40 shots on goal through two games. Kyle Formanczyk – already a two-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week this season – totaled eight saves for Albion.

Davis' two goals give him four this year, tied with Crescenti for the team lead. He also tied for team highs Saturday with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Cody Speroff (Lincoln Park HS, Chicago, Ill.), Austin Marrison (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) and Andrew Jurewicz (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) each collected a pair of ground balls and Jeremy Gottardo (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) caused two turnovers as well.
