WINTER HAVEN, Florida – With every player in the lineup collecting at least one hit, 21st ranked Augustana putting on a hitting clinic against three Capital University pitchers on Wednesday, February 26 in a 12-3 win over Crusaders. The Vikings slugged 19 hits to move to 3-1 on the season in the game, which was played at Chain-of-Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Florida.
The beneficiary of all that offense was sophomore
Walter White (East Peoria HS, East Peoria, Ill.) who went the distance in the rain-shortened contest. Originally scheduled for nine innings, the game was called in the top of the eighth with Augustana leading 19-3. The score reverted back to the last full inning completed, giving the Vikings a 12-3 win. White allowed just five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven and walking just one in his first appearance of the 2014 campaign.
Six of the nine batters in the Augustana lineup had at least two hits on the day with senior first baseman
Grant Stewart (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) leading the way. Stewart went four for five with three runs-batted-in and a run scored. He also cranked a home run, the first of the season for the Vikings. He is now hitting .688 with 11 hits in 16 at-bats through four games with 11 RBI and a slugging percentage of 1.000.

Jacob Van Duyne (Wilmington HS, Wilmington, Ill.) and junior third baseman
Kyle Lenihan (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) each went three for five with three runs scored and Van Duyne had one RBI. Sophomore right fielder
Brandon Jasper (Central DeWitt HS, DeWitt, Iowa) was two for five with a run scored and an RBI and junior catcher
Nick Tenerelli (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) was also two for five with two runs scored and an RBI. Junior left fielder
Danny Fifer (Lincoln-Way West HS, New Lenox, Ill.) had two hits in four at-bats with a run scored and an RBI.
Augustana, which was the visitor in this neutral-site game, got out of the gate in a hurry with three runs in the top of the first. Van Duyne and Jasper each singled to put runners on first and second and with one out, Stewart singled home Van Duyne and pushed Jasper to third. Stewart was thrown out trying to advance to second but Tenerelli singled home Jasper and Lenihan singled Tenerelli to second. A single by junior
Jacques Camalick (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) drove in Tenerelli to make it 3-0.
Capital scored an unearned run against White in the bottom of the first as the Vikings committed two of their four errors.
After a scoreless second inning the Vikings tallied two runs in the third. Freshman shortstop
Cameron Bush (Mullen HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) drove in both runs with a two out single to up the lead to 5-1.
Augustana scored three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and three more in the seventh to break the game wide open. Stewart's two run home run in the seventh was the big blow.
The Vikings are now off until Saturday, March 1 when they play Neumann at 1:00 p.m. in Fort Myers, Florida.
