Volleyball sweeps Pumpkin Bash to close season with 24-9 record

Senior Stephanie Petkovsek finished her career with 23 setting assists in Augustana's 
3-0 win over Simpson to close out the 2014 season.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana closed out the 2014 volleyball season on a high note with a perfect 4-0 run through its own Pumpkin Bash Tournament on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1 in the Carver Center. The Vikings won both matches on Saturday by identical scores of 3-0. In the morning first year head coach Kelly Bethke's team defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-0 (25-17; 25-16; 25-19) and in the afternoon the Vikings beat Simpson 3-0 (25-17; 26-24; 25-18).
 
Augustana ended the season with a sterling 24-9 overall record and the six seniors on the team closed out their careers on the Carver Center floor in fitting fashion. Stephanie Petkovsek (Lisle HS, Lisle, Ill.), Amber Dalgaard (Antioch HS, Antioch, Ill.), Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, Peru, Ill.), Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.), Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) and Julee Morrison (Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, Ariz.) started together in the final match against Simpson.
 
The Vikings finished the year with a 24-9 overall record.
 
AUGUSTANA 3, MILWAUKEE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING 0 (25-17; 25-16; 25-19)
 
After winning two matches the night before, against Dickinson State and Buena Vista, Augustana picked up where it left off with a convincing 3-0 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering. The Vikings were in control throughout, winning 25-17; 25-16 and 25-19.
 
Leazer, junior Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) and sophomore Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.) all had seven kills while Dudley chipped in with six and sophomore Nicole Morrissey (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) picked up five.
 
Junior Jordan Hampel (Hilliard-Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) led the team in assists with 12 while Petkovsek and sophomore Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) each had 10. Junior Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had a game high 22 digs with a pair of service aces and two assists. Petkovsek and Leazer also had two service aces and Murray picked up 12 digs. Kibir-Evans had four total blocks (one solo and three assists).
 
AUGUSTANA 3, SIMPSON 0 (25-17; 26-24; 25-18)
 
Leazer ended the match with a service ace to put the final stamp on her career. Dudley's kill just before that gave Augustana its 24th point and Petkovsek led the way with a career-high 23 setting assists. It all helped add up to a 3-0 win over Simpson that put the Vikings at 24-9 on the season.
 
The seniors led the way in this victory as Leazer had 12 kills, 22 digs, two service aces and an assisted block. Dudley was in double-digits in kills with 10 and she had three digs and two assisted blocks. Petkovsek not only had 23 assists but she also added eight digs and three service aces. Dalgaard picked up six digs and a kill while Morrison had eight digs. Brayton put down six kills with four digs and two assisted blocks.
 
Siebert led the team in digs with 24 and Murray added six kills.
