INDIANOLA, Iowa – A goal late in the second half from junior Ian Deggendorf (St. James Academy, Liberty, Mo.) gave Augustana the cushion it needed in a 2-1 non-conference victory over Simpson on Tuesday, October 7 in Indianola, Iowa. Deggendorf's goal came with 83:59 gone in the game and gave the Vikings their eighth win of the season against four defeats.
 
Deggendorf's game-winner came off an assist from junior Jonathan Colucci (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.) and it was his first goal of the season. Simpson had tied the match in the 70^th minute (70:46) when Tyler Neumann scored a header off an assist from Josh Harry.
 
Colucci put Augustana ahead midway through the first half (28:11) with an unassisted goal when he tallied his second goal of the season. He pounced on a rebound off the crossbar and poked it in the net.
 
Simpson actually held an advantage in shots on the evening at 10-5 and in shots-on-goal at 5-4. The Storm was also awarded four corner kicks to Augustana's one.
 
Senior goalkeeper Brett Johnson (Zion-Benton HS, Beach Park, Ill.) picked up the victory to move to 8-4 on the year and he had four saves in the game.
 
Augustana will now head back into College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin action with a match at Elmhurst on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m.
 
The Vikings are now 8-4 while Simpson falls to 9-6.
