Vikings fall to 10th ranked Wheaton in men's soccer; Win over Millikin will clinch CCIW tournament berth

After losing to 10th ranked Wheaton on Wednesday, October 29, Michael 
Brazinski and his Augustana men's soccer teammates can clinch a spot
in the 2014 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's soccer 
tournament with a win at Millikin on Saturday, November 1.
WHEATON, Ill. – Augustana dropped a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's soccer match to 10th ranked Wheaton by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, October 29 in Wheaton, Illinois. Despite the loss, the Vikings are still in the hunt for a berth in the CCIW tournament which will start next week.
 
Augustana is currently 10-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the CCIW and a win on Saturday against Millikin in Decatur, Illinois would propel the Vikings into the conference tournament. Wheaton, now 15-3-0 and 5-1-0 is currently ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division III national men's soccer poll.
 
The two teams played even for the first third of the game before Adam Blackman got the Thunder on the board at 37:45 with an assist by Noah Anthony. The score remained 1-0 at halftime with Wheaton holding an 11-3 advantage in shots taken.
 
In the second half the shots even out with Augustana holding the edge by a 6-5 margin. However, Wheaton scored at 53:52 on an unassisted goal by Jordan Golz and then Anthony tallied at 75:31 to make it 3-0. Elliot Borge and Brendan Finnerty were credited with assists on Anthony's goal.
 
The final shot totals showed Wheaton with a 16-9 lead and each team was awarded two corner kicks in the match. Augustana had four players; Michael Brazinski (Plainfield East HS, Plainfield, Ill.), Jonathan Colucci (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.), Danny Campagna (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.) and Adam Bengfort (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) with two shots each in the game. Campagna and Bengfort were the only two to put their shots on goal.
