Junior Kortney Hix had a hat trick Saturday to lead Augustana to a 6-0 win over Carthage at
Thorson-Lucken Field.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Junior Kortney Hix (Mountain Vista HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored the first three goals of her career Saturday to lead Augustana to a 6-0 whitewash of Carthage at Thorson-Lucken Field. Coach Scott Mejia's Vikings improve to 9-3-2 on the year and 2-1 in the CCIW. The Lady Reds fall to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the league.

The hosts went in front in the 13th minute, when junior Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) hit sophomore Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) in stride on the left side. Rizzo beat Carthage keeper Abby Alm for her team-leading seventh goal of the season and a 1-0 Augustana lead. The assist was Farell's team-high sixth of the year.

The Vikings missed some golden opportunities later in the first half, including a pair of point-blank shots by junior Jessica Kras (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.) and Hix that both went high. However, in the 42nd minute Hix broke the drought with her first career goal. Junior Somer Druszkowski (Lincoln-Way Central HS, Manhattan, Ill.) was credited with her second assist on the play. The pair switched roles two and a half minutes later, with Hix assisting on Druszkowski's third goal of the year to put Augustana up 3-0 at the half.

It took less than 18 minutes of second half action for Hix to accomplish her hat trick. She used another Druszkowski assist to score in the 56th minute and scored off a Kerri Skotnicki (Waubonsie Valley HS, Aurora, Ill.) corner in the 63rd minute to give the Vikings a 5-0 lead.

Kras scored the final goal of the match a minute later, with Skotnicki again logging the assist. The goal was Kras' sixth and the assist was Skotnicki's third of the season.

Skotnicki, along with backfield mates Kimberly Grimmer (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) and Stef Hamaker (Boylan Catholic HS, Caledonia, Ill.) limited Carthage to just eight shots total and just one that was put on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Margaret Williams (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) made that lone save and recorded her first solo shutout of the season. Alm registered four saves for the Lady Reds.

Augustana finished with a 25-8 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corners.

Next up for Mejia's side is a CCIW match against North Central on Wednesday, October 22 at 5:00 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
