Box Score
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Senior Grant Halter (Glenbard West, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) assisted on Augustana's first two goals and finished up the night's scoring with one of his own as Augustana defeated Grinnell 3-0 Friday at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Vikings improve to 2-0-1 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 0-3-0.
Halter teamed up with classmate Kyle Polanco (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort, Ill.) for the match's first goal in the 31st minute. He served a beautiful cross from the left side that Polanco headed past Grinnell keeper Isaiah Tyree for his second goal of the season and a 1-0 Augustana lead. That's the way the opening half ended.
It was all Vikings in the second half as the hosts outshot the Pioneers 15-4 in the period. In the 57th minute Halter again worked the left side, this time centering one to freshman Michael Brazinski (Plainfield East HS, Plainfield, Ill.), who blasted it in from straight on to put Augustana up 2-0.
Halter closed out the scoring in the 74th minute with an unassisted goal, his second of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Brett Johnson (Zion Benton HS, Beach Park, Ill.) went the distance in goal for the Vikings. He recorded five saves in posting the shutout.
Augustana outshot the visitors 22-9 and had a 5-3 advantage in corners in the match.
Coach Brenton Joseph's squad is now off until Sunday, September 15, when the Central Dutch visit Thorson-Lucken Field for a 1:00 p.m. match.
