ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana suffered its first loss of the season this past Saturday, falling 38-13 to Central at Lindberg Stadium. Coach Rob Cushman's Vikings will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, September 21 when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa to face Loras. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
 
Through two games, sophomore quarterback Sam Frasco (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) has completed 29 of 48 passes (60.4 percent) for 225 yards and one touchdown with five interceptions. Senior Nick Krantz (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) has been his favorite target, with 11 catches for 82 yards.
 
Despite playing just over one half in Augustana's first two games, senior Eric Chandler (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) still leads the Vikings in rushing with 167 yards on 19 carries. Frasco has carried 30 times for 88 yards and a touchdown and senior Mike McLean (Willowbrook HS, Villa Park, Ill.) 11 times for 84 yards and a score. As a team, Augustana is averaging 231.0 yards per game on the ground and 4.7 yards per carry.
 
Defensively, the Vikings have been led by senior linebacker Erik Westerberg's (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) 13 solo and 19 total tackles. Senior cornerback Sean Walker (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) was named CCIW Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Mount St. Joseph in the season opener. He has four solo and four assisted tackles this season with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a team-high three passes broken up. Junior corner Ben Fornek (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) has already picked off three opposition passes. Senior defensive end Sean Mulholland (Clinton HS, Clinton, Iowa) and freshman linebacker Michael Daniels (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) are tied for second on the team with 11 total tackles. Mulholland leads the team with two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.
 
Saturday the Vikings travel to Dubuque, Iowa to take on Loras. The Duhawks are 1-1 this season, falling to Elmhurst 35-9 in their season opener before defeating Rockford 44-33 this past Saturday. Augustana defeated Loras 34-10 at Ericson Field last year.
 
Coach Paul Mierkiewicz's Duhawks are led by running back Nate Carrier, who rushed for 1,210 yards as a freshman last year, earning first team All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors. He's already piled up 295 yards and three touchdowns on 58 carries this season. Junior quarterback Dylan Jones has completed 24 of 54 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns with a pair of interceptions. Junior wide receiver Nate Even has 11 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown.
 
Junior cornerback Dave Pirkle, honorable mention All-IIAC in 2012, is Loras' top returning defensive player. He has 15 tackles and one interception this season. Freshman linebacker Calvin Harridge leads the Duhawks with 19 tackles. Junior linebacker Tucker Brady has 15 tackles, including two for loss. Senior safety Mike Canevallo has a pair of interceptions.

HEAD COACH ROB CUSHMAN
Rob Cushman is in his third season as the head coach of the Augustana football program. He has spent the 2008-10 seasons serving as the Viking defensive coordinator. His coaching career began at Cal State-Chico in 1979. His first head coaching position was at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon, where he spent five seasons before being named the first head coach at Feather River College in Quincy, California in 2002. He led the fledgling program to a 34-21 (.618) record in five seasons, reaching a post-season bowl game each year. He served as special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York in 2007, prior to coming to Augustana.
