ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Aleksandar Glavas converted an assist from Kyle Maynard into a goal with 36 seconds left in the first overtime Sunday, lifting Central to a 2-1 win over Augustana at Thorson-Lucken Field. The loss drops the Vikings to 2-1-1 on the season, while the Dutch improve to 3-3-0.
 
Augustana took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. A Central player headed away

(Galesburg HS, Galesburg, Ill.) corner kick from in front of the Dutch goal. However, the ball ended up on the foot of freshman 
Fridolin Wernick (Evangelic Gymnasium Hermanns-Werder, Schwielochsee, Germany), who put it past Central keeper Josh Carpenter. Wernick was seeing his first varsity action of the season.
 
With much of the second half played in a downpour, Augustana's 
Michael Buric (Notre Dame Prep, Scottsdale, Ariz.) came up with a big defensively play in the 56th minute. Dillon Thornbury's header got by Viking keeper 
Brett Johnson (Zion Benton HS, Beach Park, Ill.), but Buric hustled back and cleared it just before it went in the goal to preserve the lead.
 
Augustana maintained its 1-0 advantage until the 71st minute. Johnson got his hands on a shot by Glavas, but couldn't control it and Central's Mark Henschel put it away to tie it at 1-1.  The Vikings had a couple of good scoring opportunities in the remainder of regulation, but were unable to convert. Carpenter made two saves in the final three and a half minutes to preserve the tie.
 
It look as though the match was headed for a second overtime session until Maynard hit Glavas on a dead run in the 100th minute and the Dutch's leading goal-scorer buried the shot to end it.
 
Augustana outshot the visitors 18-14 in the match and 9-6 in shots on goal. Central held a 5-4 edge in corners. Johnson was credited with four saves, while his counterpart for the Dutch, Carpenter, had eight.
