Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana scored twice in the first 14 minutes of action Saturday and cruised to a 2-0 win over Principia at Thorson-Lucken Field. With the win, Coach Scott Mejia's Vikings improve to 4-0-1 on the season. Principia fell to 2-3-0.
 
Freshman Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) put Augustana on the board in the eighth minute, scoring her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) was credited with her third assist of the year on the play.
 
In the 14th minute, it was junior Taylor Navarro (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) finding the back of the net for the third time this season off an assist from freshman Kera Linn (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa). The assist was Linn's third, tying her with Farell for the Viking lead.
 
That 2-0 lead would hold up over the final 76 minutes of the match. Augustana's defense, led by the back line of senior Maggie Hoscheit (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.), juniors Kerri Skotnicki (Waubonsie Valley HS, Aurora, Ill.) and Kimberly Grimmer (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.) and sophomore Stef Hamaker (Boylan Catholic HS, Caledonia, Ill.) stifled the Panthers, limiting them to just three shots. Sophomore Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) went the distance in goal for Mejia, recording a pair of saves and moving her record to 4-0-1 on the season.
 
Augustana outshout Principia 14-3 with a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. The Vikings took all five corners in the match.
 
Mejia's squad is back on the road on Sunday, September 15, facing Eureka in a 3:00 p.m. match.
