ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Patrick Nelson's (Jacksonville HS, Jacksonville, Ill.) goal two minutes into the first overtime Monday gave Augustana a 1-0 victory over Simpson at Thorson-Lucken Field. The win moves the Vikings over .500 at 5-4-1, while the Storm suffered just their second loss of the season, falling to 8-2-2.

On the deciding sequence, Augustana junior Nathan Kyes (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) collected a high pass from classmate Adam Bengfort (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) just inside the box and found Nelson on the right side. The sophomore overcame a tough angle to beat Simpson goalkeeper Zach McEntee, putting his shot just inside the far post for the win.

Viking keeper Tyler Cowherd (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) made four saves in the match, recording his second shutout of the season. He improved to 3-1-0 on the year. McEntee stopped 10 Augustana shots before surrendering the game-winner.

Augustana finished with a 16-12 advantage in total shots and an 11-4 edge in shots on goal. The Vikings took five corners to four for Simpson. Fouls were even at 12 and the only two cautions went to the Storm.

On Wednesday, October 9, Coach Brenton Joseph's club travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin to take on Carthage in a 7:30 p.m. match.
