North Park knocks off Augustana 45-35 at Lindberg Stadium

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – North Park piled up 504 yards in total offense Saturday and defeated Augustana 45-35 at Lindberg Stadium. The visitors improve to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the CCIW, while the hosts fall to 4-3 on the year and 2-2 in the league.
 
After stopping the Vikings on downs on the opening drive of the game, North Park struck quickly. Quarterback T.D. Conway found Cody Hood behind the Augustana secondary on the team's first play from scrimmage and Hood took it to the end zone for a 71-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
 
North Park stopped the Vikings on downs in its own territory on Augustana's next possession as well, but when Sam Frasco (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.), Eric Chandler (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) and company got the ball for the third time, they went 83 yards in nine plays for the tying score. Chandler carried five times for 36 yards on the drive and finished it off with a nine-yard touchdown run. Frasco hit Torre Harrell (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) with a 35-yard completion as well.
 
On North Park's next possession, senior Sean Walker (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) picked off Conway and sprinted 51 yards to the end zone to put Augustana up 14-7 with 1:07 left in the first quarter.
 
The visitors bounced right back, going 82 yards in 10 plays with the Conway brothers, T.D. and Dakota, teaming up for a 15-yard touchdown pass to tie the game. Then, after forcing a Viking three-and-out, they went 42 yards in nine plays before Noah Moore gave them back the lead with a 41-yard field goal. Another Augustana three-and-out preceded a nine-play, 78-yard North Park touchdown drive. Marquis Magwood finished it off with a one-yard run and NPU led 24-14.
 
Benjamin Hodges' (St. Charles North HS, Elburn, Ill.) two-yard run with 28 seconds left in the half got the Vikings within 24-21. North Park returned the ensuing kickoff into Augustana territory and eventually reached the Viking 19 before Walker blocked Moore's 35-yard field goal attempt just before halftime.
 
The only score of the third quarter came on the opening drive of the second half. Another one-yard plunge by Magwood capped a 12-play, 76-yard march and put North Park up 31-21.
 
Frasco's 11-yard touchdown pass to Harrell cut the deficit to 31-28 with 12:15 left in the game. Again the visitors answered, with the Conways hooking up from 30 yards to culminate a 74-yard, seven-play drive to make it 38-28.
 
Augustana coughed it up on its next possession and North Park took advantage, with Magwood carrying three straight times for 20 yards and scoring his third touchdown of the game to put NPU up 45-28.
 
Another Chandler touchdown run got the Vikings within 45-35. After getting the ball back, they reached the North Park one before being stopped for no gain on the game's final two plays.
 
Chandler finished with 185 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. Frasco ran for 99 yards on 18 carries and completed 17 of 28 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown. Harrell had five catches for 73 yards and a touchdown and senior Kyle Snow (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) added four receptions for 68 yards. Augustana finished with 312 yards on the ground and 184 through the air for a total of 496.
 
Magwood hauled it 33 times for 167 yards and three scores. T.D. Conway was 17 of 33 for 345 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Dakota Conway caught eight of his brother's passes for 146 yards and two scores. North Park finished with 159 yards rushing and 345 passing for a total of 504.
 
The Vikings face Carthage in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 2, with the contest scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
