frasco npu preview inside
Augustana rushed for 303 yards and scored 33 points in the second half alone this past Saturday, blowing open a game that was 14-12 at the half and rolling to a 47-19 win at Millikin. The Vikings improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the CCIW heading into a 6:00 p.m. home date with North Park this Saturday, October 26.

Sophomore quarterback Sam Frasco (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) had another big game, rushing 16 times for 203 yards and completing eight of 17 passes for another 149. He rushed for one score and passed for another. Senior running back Eric Chandler (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) added 108 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Junior Kyle Frake (Central HS, Clifton, Ill.) caught a pair of touchdown passes, one from Frasco and one from sophomore Chris Salazar (Providence Catholic HS, Plainfield, Ill.), who also rushed for a score.

The Viking ground game is averaging 255.2 yards per contest, which leads the CCIW when including all games. Frasco has rushed for 570 yards (6.5 per carry) and five touchdowns and Chandler for 410 yards (5.9 per carry) and four scores. Frasco has completed 70 of 121 pass attempts (57.9 percent) for 728 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions. Through three CCIW contests, Frasco leads the league in total offense (284.0 ypg) and ranks third in rushing (143.7 ypg) and second in passing efficiency (129.0).

Senior Nick Krantz (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.), with 24 catches for 248 yards, is Augustana's leading receiver, followed by junior Torre Harrell (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) (13-126, 1 TD), senior Kyle Snow (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) (11-52) and Frake (10-93-2).

Senior middle linebacker Erik Westerberg (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) returned from an injury the previous week to lead the Vikings with nine tackles Saturday. On the year, he has 27 solo stops, 14 assists. His 41 total tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss lead the team. Freshman linebacker Michael Daniels (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) is next in tackles (13 solo, 19 assists, 32 total), followed by junior safety Bo Goshorn (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) (24-4—28), junior corner Ben Fornek (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) (20-6—26) and senior corner Sean Walker (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) (17-8—25). Fornek has four interceptions and four pass breakups, while Walker has a pair of picks and six passes broken up. Senior defensive end Sean Mulholland (Clinton HS, Clinton, Ill.) is the team leader in sacks with three.

North Park visits Lindberg Stadium this Saturday. First-year Head Coach Michael Conway's squad is currently 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the CCIW. The team's win in this year's league opener was North Park's first in conference play since 2000. The visitors will be looking for their first win ever in Rock Island. Augustana holds a 49-2 edge in the all-time series between the teams and has won 41 consecutive meetings.

Two of Conway's key contributors are sons T.D. and Dakota. T.D., a freshman quarterback, is 133 of 259 (53.3 percent) through the air for 1,415 yards and 10 touchdowns. He's been intercepted eight times. His favorite target, not surprisingly, is brother Conway, a sophomore who's caught 27 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns. Alan Geneva is right behind with 26 catches for a team-high 343 yards and three scores. Former option quarterback Tyler Krebs has moved to receiver and has 15 catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Freshman Marquis Magwood is the team's leading rusher with 315 yards on 61 carries, an average of 5.2 per attempt. He's also caught 14 passes for 80 yards. Junior Drew Walkington has 255 yards on 61 carries (4.2 ypc). As a team, North Park averages 98.2 yards rushing and 235.8 passing per game and puts up 14.0 points per contest.

North Park's opponents have rushed for an average of 238.5 yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry. Through the air, North Park has allowed an average of 230.0 yards a contest on 65.0 percent completions. Opponents are averaging 468.5 total yards and 34.2 points per game. Conway's defense has 14 takeaways in six games. Senior linebacker Bennett Dettlinger is the team's leading tackler with 50. Freshman defensive end Patrick Goodall has a team-high three sacks and has recovered a pair of fumbles.

HEAD COACH ROB CUSHMAN
Rob Cushman is in his third season as the head coach of the Augustana football program. He has spent the 2008-10 seasons serving as the Viking defensive coordinator. His coaching career began at Cal State-Chico in 1979. His first head coaching position was at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon, where he spent five seasons before being named the first head coach at Feather River College in Quincy, California in 2002. He led the fledgling program to a 34-21 (.618) record in five seasons, reaching a post-season bowl game each year.
