ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Kristin Rauh put in a rebound in the ninth minute Wednesday and that would be all the scoring Wheaton would need as the top-ranked Thunder got by Augustana 1-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field. The visitors remained unbeaten on the year at 14-0-2 overall and 5-0-0 in the CCIW, while the Vikings fell to 10-3-3 and 2-2-1 in the league.

Augustana outshot the Thunder by a 10-8 margin in the first half, but it was Rauh who found the net for the match's only goal. Leah DeMoss headed a Val Lelle corner kick off the crossbar, but Rauh was there to get the rebound right in front of the Viking goal, beating sophomore keeper Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) to put the Thunder up 1-0.

Six of the hosts 10 first-half shots were on goal, but they couldn't get one by Wheaton keeper Kelsey Graham and went to intermission trailing 1-0.

Augustana's best scoring opportunity occurred early in the second period following a violation of the back-pass rule by Graham. The Vikings were awarded an indirect free kick in the box. Sophomore Kelly Farell (St. Ursula Academy, Sylvania, Ohio) fed freshman teammate Jessa Rizzo (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.), but Rizzo's blast went high.

Just minutes later, Rizzo had another good scoring chance, but Graham came up with the save.

The Thunder outshot Augustana 16-14 in the match, although the Vikings put eight shots on goal to five for the visitors. Wheaton had a 4-1 edge in corners. Graham recorded eight saves, while Chew finished with four.

Coach Scott Mejia's club hosts Elmhurst on Saturday, October 26, at 1:00 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
