Late goal not enough as Vikings fall at North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – A late goal by senior Matt Shipon (South Elgin HS, Elgin, Ill.) cut the margin in half but it was not enough as Augustana fell to North Central 2-1 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin action on Saturday, October 19 in Naperville, Illinois. Shipon's goal came with less than four minutes to go but the Vikings could not get the equalizer and fell to 5-8-1 overall and 0-4 in the CCIW.
 
Shipon's goal, his second of the year, came off a cross from freshman Nicolas Miller (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) at 86:22. The Vikings were unable to get a shot off in the time remaining after Shipon's score.
 
North Central jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the game's first minute when Ricardo Serrano scored unassisted off a free kick from 20 yards out at :38. In the second half the Cardinals stretched things to 2-0 with a goal by Jake Muszcynski off an assist from Jeff Jones.
 
North Central held a 13-6 advantage in shot, including 8-2 in the first half. The Cardinals also had 10 corner kicks to Augustana's two.
 
Shipon had four shots on goal and senior Fridolin Wernick (Evangelic Gymnasium Hermannswerder, Potsdam, Germany) had the other two for the Vikings.
 
Augustana will now host Wheaton on Wednesday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
