Sophomore quarterback Sam Frasco (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and freshman linebacker Jack Asquini (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.), in his first collegiate start, led Augustana to a 28-17 Homecoming win over Elmhurst this past Saturday at Lindberg Stadium. Coach Rob Cushman's team improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCIW. The Vikings have now won seven of their last 10 games dating back to the mid-way point of last season. Augustana travels to Millikin for a 1:00 p.m. contest this Saturday, October 19.

Frasco ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns and added 107 yards through the air on 12 of 18 completions against Elmhurst. Asquini, filling in for reigning CCIW Defensive Player of the Year Erik Westerberg (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) at middle linebacker, had a game-high 10 tackles and a key interception that set up a Viking touchdown. Junior Ben Fornek (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) also had a big day, with his fourth interception of the season as well as three pass breakups.

Frasco now leads Augustana and ranks third in the CCIW (including all games) in rushing yards with 367 on 72 carries, an average of 5.1 per carry. He's also rushed for a team-high four touchdowns. Senior running back Eric Chandler (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) has accumulated 302 yards and three touchdowns on 57 rushes (5.3 yards per carry). The Viking ground game is producing an average of 227.8 yards per game and 4.8 per carry in 2013.

Through the air, Frasco has connected on 62 of 104 attempts (59.6%) for 579 yards and four touchdowns with five interceptions. Senior wide receiver Nick Krantz (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) has been on the receiving end of 22 passes for 219 yards. Senior slot Kyle Snow (11-52) and junior wide out Torre Harrell (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) (10-100) are also in double figures in catches.

Despite missing the Elmhurst game, Westerberg still leads the Vikings with 32 tackles and 5½ tackles for loss. Freshman linebacker Michael Daniels (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) and junior safety Bo Goshorn (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) are next in tackles with 27 and 26, respectively. Fornek leads the team and is among the nation's leaders with his four interceptions and his four pass breakups are second only to senior corner Sean Walker's (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) five. Senior defensive end Sean Mulholland (Clinton HS, Clinton, Iowa) has a team-high three sacks.

As a team, the Vikings are surrendering just 291.0 yards per game – an average of 150.4 on the ground and 140.6 through the air.

This week's opponent, Millikin, is 1-4 on the year and 0-2 in the CCIW. The Big Blue are coming off a 55-7 loss at fourth-ranked North Central this past Saturday. The game at Frank M. Lindsay Field will be Augustana's first on a natural grass surface since its last visit to Decatur, Illinois in 2010.

Junior running back Sean Dunning leads Coach Patrick Etherton's potent offense. Through five games, Dunning has rushed for 589 yards on 108 carries (5.5 per carry) with a whopping 12 touchdowns. Senior guard Eric Whitaker, a second team All-CCIW pick last year, is the leader on the offensive line. Freshman quarterback Nick Pippin is 75 of 145 (51.7%) through the air for 945 yards and five touchdowns. He's been intercepted seven times. Three Millikin receivers have snared at least 16 passes – sophomores Taylor Sanders (18 catches for 203 yards) and Brady Cufaude (16-270, 2 TD's) and junior Mike Blakely (16-176-1). The Big Blue offense averages 25.6 points and 371.6 yards per game (177.2 rushing and 194.4 passing).

Millikin's defense has given up an average of 536.8 total yards and 45.6 points per game. Big Blue opponents have rushed for 307.6 yards per game and 6.2 yards per carry. Freshman safety Mykal Neal is the team's leading tackler with 36 and classmate Treyvon Hawkins at corner has 30 stops and eight pass breakups.
