Box Score
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Augustana men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback at Illinois Wesleyan Saturday night. Coach
Brenton Joseph's Vikings fall to 5-6-1 on the year and 0-3-0 in CCIW play. With the win, the Titans improve to 8-5-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the conference.
The night got off to a rough start for the visitors, with Augustana allowing an own goal in the 28th minute to put IWU up 1-0. Despite being outshot 9-1 in the first half, the deficit was still just 1-0 at the break.
Two goals less than four minutes apart early in the second half put the match out of reach for the Vikings. First, the Titans' Mitch Billimack headed in Angelo Catalano's free kick in the 54th minute for his fourth goal of the season. Then, in the 57th minute, Chase Salazar scored his second of the year with Drake Leary and Declan Geraghty credited with assists on the play.
That was all the scoring IWU would need as goalkeeper Andrew Reed only needed to make one save in pitching the shutout. The Titans outshot Augustana by a 16-4 margin, including 10-1 in shots on goal. Senior
Grant Halter (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was the only Viking to put a shot on goal. Senior keeper
Tyler Cowherd (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) recorded seven saves in the match, but fell to 3-2-0 on the season.
Augustana is next in action on Tuesday, October 15, hosting Wisconsin-Oshkosh at Thorson-Lucken Field at 7:00 p.m.
