Gonzalez returns to Augustana in after being at St. Ambrose University from 2018 to 2024. While at St. Ambrose, he rebuilt their throws program, developing a men’s shot put group that ranked in the top 3 for NAIA from 2020 to 2024. In 2021, Gonzalez brought St. Ambrose their first national champion in a throwing event since 2003 when Josh Mathis won the NAIA title in the men’s discus throw. While at St. Ambrose, Coach Gonzalez developed 4 conference champions in the men’s shot put, a conference champion in the men’s discus, and a conference champion in the women’s shot put and discus, producing 5 national meet qualifiers and three All-Americans.
Prior to coaching at St. Ambrose, Gonzalez spent 14 years as the throws coach at Augustana College where he produced 45 repeat CCIW All-Conference Athletes, 28 CCIW Conference Champions, 31 NCAA III National Meet Qualifiers, 11 repeat NCAA Division III National Meet Qualifiers, 14 NCAA Division III All-Americans, the NCAA Division III Runner-Up (Hammer throw- 2018), and the NCAA Division III National Champion (Hammer throw - 2017). Gonzalez is an alum of Augustana College where he competed in football and track. Gonzalez received his degree in psychology with a minor in physics.
