John Malvik is a 1971 graduate of Augustana College. He was a four-year starter and a CCIW Champion at 167 pounds in 1971. While competing at Augie, Malvik was a member of teams that compiled a 27-5-2 dual meet record, including the 1967-68 season where the Vikings produced an undefeated season, going 9-0-1. Also during his playing career, Augustana compiled four CCIW and four Wheaton Tournament team championships, produced 17 individual conference champions, two CCIW Outstanding Wrestlers and three NCAA College Division (now Division II) All-Americans.
Malvik served as an assistant coach from 1974-1987 before returning to the program nearly 30 years later in 2016. Augustana has won nine CCIW team championships across his tenure. Malvik has coached 38 CCIW champions, including three CCIW Outstanding Wrestlers, 18 NCAA Division III All-Americans, and three NCAA Division III National Champions. In July of 2023, Malvik will be inducted into the NWCA Division III Hall of Fame for his various contributions to Augustana wrestling over the past 50 years.
