Taylor Hurry is in his 3rd season coaching at Augie specializing in the throws and as the director of operations for both track & field and cross country.
While at Augustana and in only 2 seasons, Viking throwers has seen tremendous success Coach T has mentored the event group to 14 performances on the Augustana all-time list and 18 conference champion and all-conference performances. Notable achievements of Augie throwers over the last 2 years include a first-year javelin conference champion in Magnus Wells (‘23), school record and NCAA qualifying performances from Carson Eipers in the weight throw, and the top freshman throw in the country by first year Charlotte Frere in the discus (‘23). Eipers weight throw performance in ‘23 earned him a 4th place finish and all-America honors.
Prior to Augustana, Hurry coached track and field at Riverdale High School in Port Byron, Ill. for 6 years. During his time there, four 4x400m relay teams, one 4x100, two high jumpers, 2 triple jumpers and 1 long jumper qualified for the state meet, a total of 14 athletes. He also mentored the school record holders in both the long jump and triple jump.
Coach T earned a BA in neuroscience from Carthage College where he specialized in learning disabilities. He continued on to complete his masters in special education. Hurry served in special education teaching in classrooms with students who have emotional and behavioral disorders prior to his arrival as a full-time coach at Augie.
Originally from Port Byron, Ill., Coach T now lives in Rock Island where he spends most of his time with his dog, Braum. When coach is not with the team or on campus he can be found training for Highland Games athletics, cooking, or playing Dungeons and Dragons.
