Mike Gille enters his 2nd year as assistant coach with the Vikings track & field and cross country teams in 2023 specializing in distance and mid-distance events. Gille graduated from Augustana in 2022 with a BA in Biology.Â
Gille assists in training the cross country and distance event groups. In his first year assisting, he mentored 2 all-conference athletes in cross country and multiple all-conference performers in indoor/outdoor track. He also assists in recruiting for the men's side of the program.
As an athlete at Augustana, Gille collected 12 all-conference honors spanning distances from 800m to 10,000m, including 2 cross country honors and a conference championship at 10,000m. He also owns Augustana top ten all-time marks in 6 different events and was a 3x Most Valuable Runner. Gille's career culminated in an individual qualification for the NCAA national meet in cross country where he finished 97th.
Gille is originally from Roscoe, Ill. and attended Harlem High School. He now lives in the Quad Cities where, besides coaching, he works at Running Wild in Davenport, IA and runs at the sub-elite level for their team, Running Wild Elite.Â
