McCorkle, known by her athletes as "Coach Lanah," was born and raised in the Quad Cities. She began her coaching career at Rock Island High School in 2023 and spent three seasons coaching the boys with an emphasis on the long, triple, and high jump events. Her long jump and triple jump athletes all finished in the top six at the WB6 Conference Championships every season under her guidance. 

A graduate of Davenport Central High School, McCorkle was a four-time state qualifier. She was the state runner-up in both the long jump and 200m dash her senior year before continuing her career at Iowa Western and then Iowa State. She was a Second Team All-American with the Cyclones in 2017, earning 13th place in the long jump at the national meet.
