2023 Augustana Athletic Staff

Doug Sand ('85)

The 2024-25 season marks Doug's 39th year as an Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Augustana College.

In those 39 years of service, Doug has coached numerous CCIW conference champions, NCAA national qualifiers, All-Americans, and National Champions in cross country and in the middle distance and distance events on the track.

Under Augustana’s legendary Hall of Fame coach Paul Olsen, Doug also enjoyed success as an athlete in both cross country and track & field.  His senior season Doug was a member of the Viking cross country team that finished 9th in the nation. In the spring of that same year, Doug won the CCIW title in the 800-meter run, was a member of the school record-setting distance medley relay and was also an NCAA national meet qualifier as a member of the 4x400-meter relay.  The DMR record, 9:52.10, still stands today.

A 1985 Augustana graduate with a BA degree in journalism, Doug is currently the Program Manager for JTM Concepts in Rock Island, Illinois. Doug, his wife Jana, and three sons Mitchell (’18), Tyler, and Peyton ('27) live in Port Byron.
