Marty Resner, an Augustana graduate and three-year football letter winner for the Vikings, was hired in June of 2016 as the college’s first women’s bowling head coach. Resner’s Vikings competed in ten events in their inaugural season of 2017-18 and freshman Taylor Kies narrowly missed qualifying for the Unites States Bowling Congress national tournament.
Since his graduation from Augustana in 2013, Resner has been a math teacher and coach at Bettendorf High School in Bettendorf, Iowa. From 2014-2016, he served as an assistant coach for the Bulldog girls’ and boys’ bowling teams, helping each to a Mississippi Athletic Conference championship and helping guide the girls’ team to a sixth-place finish at state in 2016. In addition to bowling, Resner served as an assistant football coach at the varsity and freshman levels, as well as coaching Bulldog sprinters in track & field. He currently teaches at Sherrard High School in Sherrard, Illinois.
Resner, who began bowling at the age of five, has a strong background in the sport. As a senior at Oswego High School in Oswego, Illinois, he played on the school’s inaugural varsity team. He carried a 210 average, was the first individual medal winner in school history and helped the Panthers to an undefeated regular season and a seventh-place finish at state. He is still active as a bowler and continues to maintain and average of over 200.
At Augustana, Resner was a three-year letter winner as a tight end and long snapper in the Viking football program, catching eight passes for 113 yards.
In addition to his bachelor’s degree from Augustana in secondary education and mathematics, Resner received his master’s in sports management through Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia in the summer of 2017. He is a 2009 graduate of Oswego High School.
