Gary Altman will be joining Mark Beinborn’s women’s basketball coaching staff in his first season as an assistant coach at the collegiate level. This marks Altman’s 40th year of coaching. Previously the Maywood, Illinois native coached A.A.U. teams for 10 years including a second place finish at the 18 and under National Tournament in 1991.
Altman also coached at Bettendorf High School where five of his teams made state tournament appearances including one third place finish and two second place finishes. He is also a member of the Iowa High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Altman completed his under graduate studies at Central College as well as receiving his Master’s degree from Drake University. He has taught social studies and coached girls’ basketball for 33 years. Altman and his wife Kendra have two daughters, Kim and Mindy, and five grandchildren.
