Tom Lawrence was named the Director of Golf in May of 2022. A former Viking team captain in the sport of men’s cross country, Lawrence has made golf one of his passions after playing basketball and running track & field; cross country during his younger, competitive years.
Lawrence enters his 5th season leading the Viking men who secured a second-place finish in the CCIW Championships for the first time in over 20 years this past May. His team posted an overall head-to-head mark of 92-26. The team shot a 36-hole school record of 287-291 at the Highland Classic in September. A total of fourteen Viking golfers posted a round under par during the 2025-26 season. The Vikings have now finished in the top three in the CCIW in two of the past three seasons.
Lawrence holds degrees in Business Administration and Speech Communications from Augustana. “I believe in holding players accountable for their actions on and off the course”, he said. “There are no shortcuts. We want our student-athletes to be the best people, students and golfers they can be. I believe that college athletics in general and golf in particular, is a great part of learning life skills. We celebrate small victories with the thought that eventually those will be the building blocks to larger victories both on and off the golf course.”
Lawrence was the third of three brothers (Terry and Ted) to graduate from Augustana. He and his wife Donna (also an Augie grad) have three children – David who is the team’s Director of Player Performance, and daughters Jamie (2014) and Jenna (2018) who played for him during their Augustana years.
