Augustana baseball Head Coach Greg Wallace added Mike Meyers to his staff for the 2015 season. Meyers, who enjoyed a nine-year minor league playing career, previously served as an assistant coach for the Vikings from 2009-12.

For the six years prior to rejoining the Augustana staff, Meyers, who owns degrees from Black Hawk College and Western Illinois University-Quad Cities in Moline, Illinois, served as a private pitching coach in the Quad Cities area. In addition to his previous coaching experience at Augustana, he has also served as an assistant coach at Black Hawk and Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa, helping the Knights to a Class 2A state championship in 2008.

A native of London, Ontario, Meyers was drafted by the Houston Astros in 1995 out of Annandale High School in Tillonsburg, Ontario, but chose to continue his career at Black Hawk. He was a two-time All-Arrowhead Conference selection for the Braves, passing on another Astros draft offer following his freshman year. The Chicago Cubs selected Meyers in the 26th round of the 1997 draft and the right-handed pitcher began his professional career.

In nine seasons in the Cub, Met and Brewer organizations, Meyers compiled a 59-38 career record, split almost evenly as a starter and reliever. He posted a winning record at every level from Rookie to AAA and his best season came in 1999, when he went 14-3 with a 1.73 ERA at Dayton (High Class A) and West Tennessee (AA) in the Cubs’ system.
