ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Sunday's rainy weather did not slow down Augustana College women's tennis (4-1, 4-0), who moved indoors to face off with Carthage College (1-2, 1-2). Augustana was in control throughout the matchup, walking away with a 5-2 win over their CCIW opponent. 

How it Happened

 

Doubles

Augie's first and second doubles teams both won their matchups 6-4, with Anna-Maria Huebel and Colleen Larry taking care of business in the No. 1 matchup while Maripaz Ramirez and Estefana Alejandra Casillas Velasco were victorious in the No. 2 match. Carthage did manage to take the No. 3 match, 7-6. 

 

Singles

Augustana's top four singles players all won their matches. In the No. 1 match, Ramirez won in two sets, 7-6 and 6-4. Then, Huebel took three sets to vanquish her opponent in the No. 2 matchup. 

 

Casillas Velasco won in just two sets, 6-4 and 6-1, and Larry won her two sets by scores of 7-5 and 6-2. Carthage closed out the match with wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles games.

 

Up Next

Women's tennis will take a break from conference play when they head to the ITA Regional Tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota. The three-day event begins on Friday, Sept. 25.
