Track and Field competes at Wartburg Qualifier

WAVERLY, Iowa The Augustana Vikings men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Wartburg Qualifier on Saturday.

Magnus Wells led the Vikings in the field events with a win in the weight throw, recording a mark of 18.96m (62-02.50) to take first place. He also added a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.08m (49-05.75).

In the jumps, Luke Smith recorded a fourth-place finish in the long jump, reaching 6.37m (20-10.75).


On the women's side, Leila Sifford turned in a pair of strong performances. The freshman placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.40m (34-01.50) and also finished seventh in the 200m with a personal-best time of 26.50.


The Vikings also saw strong results in the sprints and hurdles. Tyreke Fortney advanced through the prelims of the 60m, clocking 6.90, before finishing fifth in the final with a time of 6.892. In the 60m hurdles, AJ Banks posted a personal-best 8.26 in the final to finish fifth after qualifying through the prelims earlier in the day.


Additional field event performances included Laina Nelson, who placed sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.97m (52-04.75).


This
marked Augustana's final indoor meet before the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14-15 in Birmingham, Ala.
