BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Augustana Vikings men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the UAB Spring Invitational on Saturday, adding several top-six finishes on the final day of action.
The Vikings were once again led by strong performances in the throws, as Charlotte Frere delivered a standout effort with a first-place finish in the discus, recording a mark of 48.07 meters. Frere added another top result in the shot put, placing fourth with a throw of 12.17 meters to cap off her weekend. Laina Nelson continued her strong showing in the field events, placing sixth in the discus with a mark of 38.01 meters, while Ella Colvin recorded a personal-best throw of 28.83 meters in the event. On the men's side, Magnus Wells added to his impressive weekend with a fourth-place finish in the discus at 44.79 meters, while also securing a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.60 meters.
Augustana also saw success in the hurdles, where Conner Calhoun led the way with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 16.08. Elijah Lara followed closely behind, placing sixth in the same event with a time of 16.10, giving the Vikings a strong showing in the event. The Vikings continued to show depth in the field events, with Laina Nelson and Ella Colvin contributing additional marks in the discus, while Jacob Brown added a top-10 finish in the shot put.
Augustana is back in action competing in the Wartburg Outdoor Select on Monday, March 30. The Vikings will be competing in the 10K event.
