Men's tennis splits opening day in South Carolina

Box Score 1 HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team split the opening day of spring break action with a loss against the Carleton Knights by a score of 4-3 before defeating the Lawrence Vikings 7-0.

Match One Against Carleton - 4-3 (L)

The Vikings started strong with two out of three wins in doubles action, with victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to lead 1-0. Santiago Diaz and Saman Rezaeyan picked up the first win with a score of 77-65, and Grant Meyer and Santiago Lazo followed with a 6-2 score. 

Carleton secured the top two spots before Jorge Marcelo Escribano forced extra sets with a 6-3, 3-6, 112-010 victory. Santiago Lazo followed with a three-set win at the No. 4 with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 110-08. The opposing team secured the remaining matchups to overtake the meet 4-3. 

Match Two Against Lawrence - 7-0 (W)

Augie claimed all double actions with Feldman Facundo and Arturo Asensio Moreno, along with Pedro Nunes and Tomas Jimenez picked up a 6-1 win in the top two spots. Henry Galloway and Arthur Mendes closed out the No. 3 spot with a 6-0 victory. 

The Vikings stayed hot in singles play, with all victories finishing in two sets, with Mendes not giving up a set with 6-0 scores in the No. 6 spot. 

With the split record, Augie moves to 4-4 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow with two more against DePauw and Oberlin.
