Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team fell to the Cornell Rams on Sunday by a score of 4-3.
In doubles play,
Colleen Larry and
Maripaz Ramirez conquered the No. 2 slot with a 6-4 victory, while
Kassidy Anderson and
Maddy Harned collected a 6-4 win at No. 3. With the two wins, Augie led 1-0 entering singles play.
The Vikings dropped the top two seeds, with Ramirez forcing extra sets before
Anna-Maria Huebel collected a 6-2 and 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot. Larry played three sets in the No. 4 spot, but the Rams came out on top at No. 4 and 5 to lead 4-2. Harned clinched a three-set win at the No. 6 slot after losing the first set and came back on top with scores of 1-6, 6-1, and 1
10-05.
In extra matches,
Sofia Carr and
Allie France earned a 7-5 win, while Avan Lannen and
Lily Conn defeated their opponents 6-0. In singles,
Maitreyi Shrikhande won 4-1 and 4-0. Elsewhere, Carr came out on top 4-1 and 4-2, while
Leah Kitterman secured a 7
11-6
9 and 6-3 victory.
Grace Evers closed out the meet with a 6-4 and 7
9-6
7 win.
Augie moves to 0-2 in the spring season and 5-5 overall and will be back in action on March 24-25 from spring break competitions in South Carolina.
