Aine Moffit & Maryam Ndiaye conquers D3 National Invite; team finishes sixth

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's wrestling team finished the D3 National Invite in sixth place with 92.5 out of 50 teams. 

Day One Recap:
Aine Moffit will partake in the semifinals of the 138 weight class after three wins on day one. Moffit began the day with a 16-4 technical fall before pinning her opponent in round two. She finished the day with a 6-4 decision against Simpson to earn a place in the semifinals tomorrow. 

Moni Griffin will also wrestle in the semifinals of the 131 weight division after three victories. Griffin pinned her first opponent of the day before earning a 17-4 technical fall. She closed out day one with another pin to advance.

Maryam Ndiaye advances in the 180 weight category after two 10-0 technical falls against Luther and Elmhurst. In her final round of the day, Ndiaye earned a 6-0 decision to advance to the semifinals.

Gia Ritter moves on in the 145 weight class in the consolation bracket after a first-round loss. In her second round, Ritter pinned her next two opponents to secure a spot in day two action. Hannah Suboni-Kaufman pinned her first foe of the day in the 117 weight division before moving to the consolation bracket in round two. She advances after a pin against UW-Oshkosh in her final round of the day. 

In the 145 weight category, Kelly Ladd grabbed two victories, starting with a pin against UW-Stevens Point. After moving to the consolation bracket, Ladd earned a 7-5 decision. Mia Vazquez conquered her first matchup of the day with a 10-0 technical fall and moved to the consolation bracket in round two of the 103 class.

Day Two Recap:

Moffit continued her strong showing with two more wins in the 138 weight class, with a 10-0 technical fall in the semifinals and pinned her opponent who is a returning All-American, in the first-place matchup. Ndiaye also conquered her weight division after two decisions with scores of 6-2 and 13-6 over nationally ranked wrestlers. 

Griffin placed fourth in the 131 category after moving to the consolation bracket after her first round of the day. She followed with a pin to move to the third-place matchup, where she fell to Wartburg. Vazquez earned four team points with a seventh-place finish after starting with a 6-2 decision. She moved to the seventh-place matchup, where she pinned her opponent.  

Following the event, Moffit was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.

The Vikings will be back in action on Feb. 20-21 for the NCAA Region 5 in Indianola, Iowa.
