WAVERLY, Iowa — The Augustana Vikings men's and women's indoor track and field teams turned in a strong weekend of competition at the Wartburg Indoor Select, capped by multiple event victories, podium finishes, and personal-best performances across the sprints, throws, combined events, and relays.

Augustana made an early statement on the men's side in the short sprints, led by Tyreke Fortney. Fortney placed second overall in the 60 meters with a time of 6.94 before adding a third-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking a personal-best 22.45. Luke Smith followed with a runner-up finish in the long jump, posting a leap of 6.61 meters, while Caden Eller added a fourth-place finish in the event with a mark of 6.45 meters.

The Vikings were equally strong in the hurdles, as Brayden Veil secured a third-place finish in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.49, marking a personal best.

In relay action, the men's 4x400-meter A squad placed fourth overall, finishing in 3:28.35. The quartet of Mohamed Benbrahim, AJ Banks, Daniel Prochaska, and Conner Calhoun combined for one of the team's top track performances of the meet.

The throws group once again delivered for Augustana on the men's side, as the Vikings dominated the weight throw by claiming the top four finishes in the event. Magnus Wells led the sweep with a victory, winning the event with a personal-best mark of 19.12 meters. Landon Wierenga followed in second with a throw of 17.29 meters, Julian Molitor placed third at 16.28 meters, and Evan Santilli rounded out the top four with a mark of 16.01 meters. Wells also added a second-place finish in the shot put, recording a season-best throw of 15.20 meters.

Eller rounded out the Vikings' top-five field event performances by placing fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.79 meters.

A major highlight of the meet on the women's side came in the pentathlon, where Khaliah Knox delivered a breakthrough performance. Knox placed third overall in the pentathlon while recording a personal-best score of more than 500 points, moving her into ninth place on Augustana's all-time list. She earned a third-place finish in the pentathlon's 60-meter hurdles and added fourth-place showings in the high jump, long jump, and shot put, before closing the event with a strong 800-meter run to secure her podium finish.

Augustana also found success on the track, led by Bridget Hecker, who placed third overall in the 200 meters with a time of 26.36. Jordyn Van Santen added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 59.47. In relay action, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Hecker, Van Santen, Cora Deemer, and Luniah Gilford captured the event title, finishing first overall with a season-best time of 4:05.26.

The Vikings were strong across the women's field events as well. Charlotte Frere turned in a dominant performance in the throws, claiming first place in both the shot put and the weight throw. Frere recorded a personal-best mark of 12.89 meters in the shot put and a winning throw of 15.78 meters in the weight throw. In the jumps, Leila Sifford earned a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.14 meters. Freshman Athena Ghiotto added a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.35 meters, while Presley Winters and Grace Gillespie tied for fourth place in the event with matching clearances of 3.05 meters.

Augustana will continue its indoor season at the Roger Haynes Memorial, hosted by Monmouth on February 14.
