Men and Women's track and field picked 4th in CCIW pre-championship poll

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's track and field and Augustana Vikings women's track and field teams are set to compete at the upcoming CCIW Indoor Championships this weekend.

In the 2026 CCIW Men's Indoor Track & Field Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll, Augustana was projected to finish fourth with 48 points, trailing North Central College men's track and field, Carthage College men's track and field, and Illinois Wesleyan men's track and field. The Vikings come into the championships with several standout individual performances having already cracked the school's indoor Top-10 lists this season. Brayden Veil  ranks second all-time with an 8.32 in the 60m hurdles, while Elijah Lara appears ninth at 8.69 in that event. In the sprints, Tyreke Fortney's 22.23 in the 200 meters also places him among the program's best in 2026.

On the women's side, the Vikings were also projected to finish fourth in the 2026 CCIW Women's Indoor Track & Field Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll behind Elmhurst University women's track and field, North Central College women's track and field, and Illinois Wesleyan women's track and field. Augustana's women enter the meet with multiple athletes having placed on the 2026 indoor Top-10 lists. In the sprint events, Jasmine Kenney (8.03), Khaliah Knox (8.06) and Bridget Hecker (8.12) have each recorded marks among the best in program history in the 60 meters, while Knox also ranks on the 60m hurdles list at 9.57 and Hecker appears on the 200 meters list with a 26.00. In the 400 meters,Jordyn Van Santen's 59.05 and Hecker's 59.69 stand out, and Leila Sifford appears ninth all-time in the long jump at 5.26 meters. In the throws and combined events, Charlotte Frere, Laina Nelson and Amelia Miller place on the 20-pound weight throw Top-10, and Knox also appears among the top ten pentathlon performances, while Kiera Nelson ranks tenth all-time in the 5000 meters.

Both teams will compete at the 2026 CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27–28, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan
