Women's basketball wraps up season against Illinois Wesleyan

Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 19 Illinois Wesleyan, 86–68.

The Vikings showed early fight, getting baskets from Paige Melton and Cali Papez to establish themselves in the opening minutes. Tia Lewis added a turnaround jumper and Ciara Hull finished inside off a Kadence Tatum assist as Augustana stayed with Illinois Wesleyan early. The Titans crashed the boards for extra chances late in the quarter and used offensive rebounds and transition points to move in front by the end of the first.

Illinois Wesleyan continued to find its rhythm in the second quarter, turning defensive pressure into scoring runs. Carly Stone knocked down a three and Hull answered with one of her own to keep Augustana within reach, while Lewis added points at the charity stripe. Giulia Milazzo provided a late spark with a free throw and driving layup in the closing seconds, but the Titans held a 41–28 lead at the break.

After halftime, Augustana continued to battle. Lewis connected from three and finished inside, while Papez converted in the paint off an assist from Hull. Sophia Klacik and Lexi Hayes each knocked down threes as the Vikings worked to generate offense against Illinois Wesleyan's pressure. The Titans capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities to keep their lead heading into the fourth.

Klacik opened the final quarter with a jumper, and Papez added multiple finishes inside as Augustana continued to push against the Titan lead. Tatum provided a lift midway through the period, converting a layup and following with a free throw and jumper during a stretch where the Vikings forced several turnovers. Lewis added another basket in transition, and reserves Grace Lizak and Jaida Collins contributed late as Augustana played through the final horn.

Papez led Augustana with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Lewis added 12 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Tatum finished with 10 points, five assists, and four steals, and Hull and Klacik each added seven points.

Augustana finishes the season at 11–14 overall and 6–10 in CCIW play.
