Men's wrestling has strong showing at CCIW Championships

NAPERVILLE, Ill. The Augustana Vikings men's wrestling team competed at the 2026 CCIW Wrestling Championships on Saturday, finishing seventh as a team with 63.5 points and placing six wrestlers on the podium.

Conor Phelan led the Vikings with a third-place finish at 184 pounds. Phelan secured his spot on the podium with a fall over Elmhurst at the 6:57 mark of the third-place match, earning key points for Augustana.

At heavyweight, Teke Nieto also earned a third-place finish, defeating Illinois Wesleyan by an 8–6 decision to close out his tournament run.

Braiden Young added a fourth-place finish at 197 pounds after advancing to the third-place match, while Matt Lucansky secured fifth place at 141 pounds with a 10–3 decision over MSOE. 

The Vikings also saw Trevion Gilford and Gianni Panozzo earn sixth-place finishes at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, rounding out Augustana's six conference placers.

Augustana was also represented in the conference's postseason honors, as Antione Gilford was named the team's recipient of the CCIW RESPECT Award.

As a team, Augustana finished seventh in the conference standings with 63.5 points. North Central claimed the team title with 158.0 points, followed by Millikin in second and Aurora in third, as the Vikings finished ahead of Illinois Wesleyan, Wheaton, and Concordia Wisconsin in the final standings.
