MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Augustana Vikings men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Roger Haynes Invitational on Saturday, recording multiple event wins and top-five finishes across both sides.
Tyreke Fortney led the Viking sprinters with a win in the 60m in 6.87 while also placing second in the 200m in 22.23. Fortney later helped Augustana close the meet with a win in the 4x400m relay alongside AJ Banks, Mohamed Benbrahim, and Ryan Schmidgall, finishing in 3:27.64.
In the hurdles, Brayden Veil placed second in the 60m hurdles in 8.49, followed closely by Banks in third, while Bayley Pierce added a fifth-place finish.
Benbrahim added a third-place finish in the 400m in 51.17, while Jordyn Van Santen earned a win on the women's side in 59.05.
Augustana turned in a dominant performance in the mile, sweeping four of the top five spots. Daniel Prochaska won the event in 4:29.88, followed by Milo McLeer in second, Adam Miller in third, and Jose Gomez in fifth. On the women's side, Norah Wright earned the win in 5:25.54, followed by Marie Weber in second, Frida Martinez in third, and Laia Luque in fifth.
The Vikings also saw a win in the 800m, as Ben Milner crossed first in 2:02.63. Tyler Weber placed third, and Pierce added a fourth-place finish.
In the field events, Magnus Wells led Augustana with a win in the weight throw at 18.59m, while Landon Wierenga placed third. Wells also added a sixth-place finish in the shot put, while Charlotte Frere placed second in both the shot put and weight throw. Luke Smith added a fourth-place finish in the long jump, while Tatum Rogers placed third in the pole vault. On the women's side, Leila Sifford placed second in the long jump and Khaliah Knox added a fifth-place finish. Rhiannon Marshall placed fifth in the high jump, while Cora Heller, Athena Ghiotto, and Grace Gillespie placed third, fourth, and fifth in the pole vault, respectively. Elizabeth Hayes also added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump.
The Vikings also saw turned in top performances in the distance events, as Elizabeth Lawton placed third and Nicole Hoffman placed fifth in the 3000m.
The Vikings also recorded multiple top-five finishes in the relays. The winning 4x400m relay team of Banks, Benbrahim, Prochaska, and Schmidgall led the way, while another Viking squad of Pierce, Prestin Stabler, Joshua Vook, and Bryce Jackson placed third.
In the distance medley relay, the team of Tyler Weber, Ted Gray, Primo Moreno, and Liam Storie placed second, while another squad of Chase Palm, Milner, August Haak, and Caden Ludin placed third. A third Viking relay of Gage Gaulrapp, Nathanael Hayford, Kasey Dose, and Peyton Sand placed fourth.
On the women's side, the distance medley relay team of Aniela Ehrlicher, Brooke Kashmier, Sammy Lehr, and Kenzie Meirhaeghe placed second, followed by Lilliana Jaeger, Emma Kuo, Rosa de Lima Arroyo, and Allison Price in third.
Augustana also saw strong finishes in the sprint relays. Bridget Hecker, Luniah Gilford, Paige Stevens, and Natalie Steva placed third in the 4x200m relay. In the 4x400m relay, Gilford, Cora Deemer, Weber, and Ghiotto placed third, while Millington, Sifford, Kuo, and Addi Wessel added a fourth-place finish.
The Vikings are on the road again on Saturday February 20 at the Solomon Butler Classic in Dubuque, Iowa.
