Men's tennis picks up sweep, starts season 2-0

STERLING – The Augustana Vikings men's tennis delivered a statement performance on the courts, rolling past Southwestern Illinois with a perfect 7-0 sweep in a match where the Vikings never dropped a flight and controlled the action from start to finish.

Augustana raced out to a dominant start in doubles play, posting a clean sweep to grab the early advantage. At No. 1, Aingeru Garcia and Jorge Marcelo set the tone with a commanding 6-2 victory. Grant Meyers and Henry Galloway followed with a composed 6-4 win at No. 2, while Facundo Feldman and Pedro Nunes closed out, a 6-2 victory at the third position.

The Vikings continued their dominance in singles play. Marcelo delivered a flawless performance at No. 2 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Meyers added another point with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3. Feldman continued the surge at No. 4, securing a 6-1, 6-2 result, and Arturo Asensio Moreno added another straight-set win at No. 5, finishing off his opponent 6-4, 6-0.

At the top of the lineup, Saman Rezaeyan battled through a three-set match at No. 1 singles, clinching a 3-6, 6-2, 10-9 victory in the super tiebreak. Galloway capped off the sweep at No. 6 singles with a hard-fought three-set win of his own, pulling out a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 decision to seal the Vikings' seventh point of the day.

Augustana returns to action on Saturday, February 14 against the University of Chicago. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
