ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - On Thursday, Augustana College women's basketball announced they will play Illinois State in a match on November 7. The Vikings will travel to Normal, Illinois, to face the Division I opponent at 4 p.m. While the game will count towards ISU's record, it will be an exhibition match for Augie.
This will be the first recorded instance of Augustana facing Illinois State's varsity squad. The Vikings have met ISU's JV squad twice however. In the 1975-76 season, Augie defeated the JV Redbirds 43-40 before winning again the following season, 56-43.
Illinois State will be a good test for the Vikings as ISU has turned into one of the Missouri Valley Conference's top programs. The Redbirds finished third in the MVC last season with a record of 24-14 and advanced to the tournament semifinals before an overtime loss to Evansville ended their run. ISU did secure a spot in the WNIT and made a run to the championship game where they fell to Marshall. In the 2026-27 MVC Preseason Poll, the Redbirds were picked second.
